Promotional
artwork used for the movie "Terminator 2". The basic idea was
to merge an image of Arnold, with an image of the cyborg. Various elements
of the cyborg were tweaked to line up with Arnold's frame. Eyes were illustrated
in, and Arnold's chest and shoulder were extended for balance. The file
was whisked off to Arnold for approval, but was denied due to the fact
that his hair was slicked back in the original photo, and spiked in the
movie. When the Art Director called in dismay, I assured him I could spike
the hair (by re-illustrating every strand) before he could get back to
the studio to pick up a new print. The new spiked version was delivered
and approved by Arnold minutes before his leaving the country. This image
has become so recognizable, it's funny to think it almost never existed
(Quantel Graphic Paintboxl).
